Another Book? Yes Please!

So Stephenie updated her website, telling us that she was releasing another book, or novella, as she calls it, based on the life of Bree Tanner, the newborn vampire from Eclipse. Here is her update:

"Surprise!

I have a new book coming out. It's called The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner. Well, it's more of a novella than an actual book—my version of a short story.

Actually, this has been a surprise to me, too. The reason why it's a surprise was that I never intended to publish this story as a stand-alone book. I began this story a long time ago—before Twilight was even released. Back then I was just editing Eclipse, and in the thick of my vampire world. I was thinking a lot about the newborns, imagining their side of the story, and one thing led to another. I started writing from Bree's perspective about those final days, and what it was like to be a newborn.

This story was something that I worked on off and on for a while, just for fun, in between the times I was writing or editing other Twilight novels. Later, when the concept for The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide came up, I thought that might be a good place for Bree. Her story is a nice complement to Eclipse; it explains a lot of the things that Bella never knew. So I dusted it off and finished it up for placement in the Guide.

At the same time, it came in handy for the Eclipse film. Melissa (Rosenberg, the screenwriter) had a ton of questions about what exactly was going on in Seattle, how Victoria managed things, what Riley was like, etc. I let her read what I had then, and later gave the whole thing to the director, David Slade. David asked if Xavier, Bryce, and Jodelle (Riley, Victoria, and Bree) could read it as well, so all the parties involved would end up having a really strong foundation for their characters before the cameras started rolling. I was pleased that this side of the story would make it into the film and was looking forward to including it in the Guide.

(Keeping it confidential: Here is Jodelle next to the bucket of waterlogged ashes that were once the pages of her copy of the Bree manuscript.)
Then I got the news: my "short story" was nearly 200 pages long when typeset. It was too long to fit into the Guide—without ending up with a tome as heavy as the Oxford English Dictionary. My publisher approached me with the idea of releasing the Bree story on its own. One of the major benefits of this plan was that it would be out before the movie, so people would get to know Bree before they saw her in the film. That made sense to me, and we decided to go ahead with it.

There was one thing I asked for: since this story had always been an extra for me, and was meant to be released with the Guide, I wanted to be able to offer it to my fans for free. You all have bought a ton of my books, and I wanted to give you this story as a gift. My publisher was awesome and embraced this idea. We still wanted to also produce a physical book with a cool cover (see below) that you can add to your set if you like, but starting at noon on June 7th until July 5th, it will also be available online at http://www.breetanner.com/.

One other aspect of this release is the plan to give a more important gift to people who really need it. One dollar of each book purchased in the US from the first printing will be donated to the American Red Cross for their relief efforts in Haiti and Chile and other parts of the world where people are in great need. We're going to have an option online as well, so you can choose to make a donation if you want when you read the story online. I hope you will. I think that we can really help a lot of people with this.

I really hope you all enjoy this story. I had a blast writing it. I'm glad that after all this time cooling her heels in my files, Bree finally gets her chance to shine.
Thanks for all the support,
Steph"

Here is the synopsis of the Novel:

"Fans of The Twilight Saga will be enthralled by this riveting story of Bree Tanner, a character first introduced in Eclipse, and the darker side of the newborn vampire world she inhabits. In another irresistible combination of danger, mystery, and romance, Stephenie Meyer tells the devastating story of Bree and the newborn army as they prepare to close in on Bella Swan and the Cullens, following their encounter to its unforgettable conclusion"

Finally, the day has come. New Moon is now PORTABLE :)

So everyone, New Moon was officially released at 12:01 this morning. Did the DVD and all the special features live up to the hype? (Heck yess!) I want to hear your thoughts on the DVD and the special edition package you bought! I bought the one from Best Buy Canada. It was the DVD in a metal tin, and it came with your own personal POCKET EDDIE!
So at 11:30 my family and my 2 friends got in our mini van and drove to Best Buy. The line up at the one we went to was pretty small and there were some crazed lunatics banging at the door to get in. (JK! We know how you feel!) I'm pretty sure it was a few minutes before midnight when they opened the doors and let us all in . We grabbed the movie we wanted, whether it be DVD or Blu-Ray, tin box and PE or just the movie, and headed to pay. As soon as we all got in the car, we cracked that bad boy open to get out our Pocket Edwards, making sure they didn't make him insanely pocket sized and tricked us. Phew, he's full size. Altogether it was a pretty epic night, as soon as we got home we put the movie on and watched it. I haven't gotten around to the bonus features but the time will come.

What did you think of your DVD? How were the bonus features? How do you think this DVD compared to Twilight?

Is The Twilight Saga: Eclipse in trouble?

Fandago has an interesting new article about Eclipse. Here it is:

"Only one week before the first trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is set to debut in theaters in front of Robert Pattinson's Remember Me comes this bit of controversy from within the post-production offices. Apparently Summit Entertainment has replaced the original Eclipse editor, Art Jones, with Nancy Robinson, who edited the first Twilight film. So why the switch?
Well, the studio isn't blaming Jones at all; what they're saying is that the film needed a "stronger edit" and, according to Summit, Robinson understands the "emotion of the characters and is an ace at balancing action with the other elements of the film." Previously, Jones had worked with Eclipse director David Slade on both Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night, and if you want my opinion I bet both guys were looking to deliver a much darker and riskier film than Summit was prepared to deal with.

But that's the risk you take when you hire a different director for each of your films. While you may want them to all to share a similar vibe, it's hard to achieve that when you bring on filmmakers who have their own sense of style, especially ones like Slade who come from a more horror-ish background. If Twilight were more popular with the fanboys, I could see a petition to get Jones' original cut in theaters flying around the internet faster than Edward Cullen can climb a tree. However, something tells me Twi-hards won't be too afraid of this news, and if anything they should feel comfortable knowing Summit is on their side and wants to deliver the film they feel their fans expect.

What do you think of the editor change? Does it mean bad things for the final product, or do you have faith that Summit knows what kind of film you want to see in theaters this June 30th?"

What is your take on this article?

My apologies once again, Update and blabbing :)

Sorry for not posting. I've been caught up in stuff. (Olympics, school, etc.) I've been meaning to post, but I just haven't gotten around to it.

Hey, did any of you catch the little reference to Twilight in The Office yesterday night?
Kevin was talking about cooking from the Twilight Cook Book and making Edwards cornflake chicken or something. I couldn't find the clip yet but if I do I will post it ASAP :) It was pretty funny.

Also, did anyone see Alice in Wonderland yet? I know it just came out today but I went and saw it. It was pretty amazing. I know this doesn't relate to Twilight bu Michael Sheen was in it as the white rabbit, so It sorta does.

Is it just me, or does it seem like the DVD release for New Moon isn't as hyped as it was for Twilight. No where in Canada is having a release party and barely anywhere is advertising for the DVD and all the special editions and stuff. :(

I don't know whats going on, I don't want to say that I'm losing my faith in Twilight or whatever, maybe I just need to watch Twilight and New Moon again. MARCH 20th, HURRY UP!
Anyways, I'll try to post more, I hope that when they come to Vancouver to film my Twilight spirits will get back up and I'll feel more inclined to post.

Thanks for sticking around :D
